AIB CLOSES ITS DOORS
The Allied Irish Bank closed its doors on Friday 10th. May after almost 102 years trading in the town of Croom.
The AIB was part and parcel of the commercial life of Croom serving a wide catchments area, farming, town business traders, the County Hospital which made up the general hospital, the fever hospital and the maternity hospital, the milling industry, stud farms and creameries and fair days when cattle dealers visited the town to be part of the buying and selling of the fair day
The recent collapse of the Banking Institutions in Ireland has changed the financial landscape with the demise of our traditional way of banking, meeting the bank staff and the neighbours and friends as they frequented the friendly bank. The closure of AIB on Friday 10th May brought the curtain down on 102 years of financial trading for the community, the parishioners, the traders, the investors and the working fraternity of the Maigueside town of Croom and District.
The High St. bank is now part of history when the heavy transporters collected the office equipment and after 4.00 p.m. on Friday the Signage of 102 years of AIB Banking in Croom ,was taken down. Read the full story here
